Answers At-A-Glance:

 Bands/Groups must have at least 2 members. No soloists.

Minimum age for band/group members is 14yo, but there must be somebody over 21 accompanying any group/band with members under 18.

Any genre of music. The best band/group will win. Really - they will. This is not a "popularity" contest - our judges are all seasoned professionals from many facets of the music industry.

You must perform at least 2 original works during every set you play. Covers are allowed for the balance of your set.

Sets are 18 minutes (MAX) with a 6-minute put-up and take-down. You will be judged on how well you use your time.

There is a maximum of 60 bands/groups in the competition.

Preliminary rounds are 12 rounds of  5 bands, with the 12 round winners and 8 wild-cards/previous finalists moving on to the semi-finals.

The semi-final rounds will consist of 4 groups of five bands. Set lengths will be increased to 20 minutes.

The top  band from each semi-final round  will advance to the final round of competition.

The final round will also be 28 minute sets. There will be 1 grand-prize winner from the final competition.

A group of of us (Jexo, Brett & Gary) wanted to create a new vibe in the local music scene:

How to get more of the great local music in front of the public, giving more bands more exposure in local venues?

How to help the best local groups get that little extra boost - a chance to win equipment and get their best stuff professionally produced?

How to overcome the "popularity contest" stigma associated with so many other contests?

So, we came up with The Battle of Standing Rock:

42 (was 54 - nope, now 60) bands of every/any genre.

The best local venues.

Great prizes.

Real judges - all with backgrounds in the music business.

For the public, 5 great local bands for only $5.00 a night - prelim's, semi's and finals.

The BOSR #1 was a blast and The Dr. Teeeth played a killer set at the finals, walking away with the first Battle of Standing Rock Grand Prizes.

The BOSR #2 was really a show! We were pleased to see so many bands from the previous year back to show their stuff. Band Drenalin blew the house away with some serious licks - it was really obvious they'd been working hard between contests and were crowned the unanimous winner by the judging panel.

So now we do BOSR #3 - with better prizes, more bands, and a heck of a good time for all.

All because we enjoy it.
